A Hermit's Guide to Social Distancing

22 March 2020

Hi everyone!

Can you believe how quickly our lives have changed in the course of a few weeks?! It's times like these that I take a few extra minutes to be grateful for the small positive things that are happening around me. Today I wanted to share a few tips on how to keep busy at home while you're self-isolating. I know you've heard it time and time again on the news, so I won't harp on it, but flattening the curve in order to give our healthcare system an opportunity to avoid collapse is of paramount importance. Please stay home, and get your information from WHO/CDC/Chief Medical Officer of your country. We need them to keep our hospitals running smoothly, and avoid any rationing of critical care equipment.

Now, without further ado.... here are a list of things that I have been doing for years as a self-professed introvert who loves being alone:

1. Reading. Preferably, reading thrillers and suspenseful novels that leave you on the edge of your seat. Those give me all the excitement and joy without leaving the apartment. Woohoo! My favourite recent series was the Stillhouse Lake series by Rachel Caine.

2. Binging a movie list, or on TV shows. Now is the time! I'm currently obsessed with Designated Survivor on Netflix.

3. Clean your home, declutter/throw out garbage that has been collecting, and reorganize everything. Recently I went through my storage on top shelves of closets, and also shelves in storage and entertainment units. Super productive!

4. Cook new recipes you've been putting off. Now is a great time to finesse your culinary or baking skills since restrictions are in place to avoid restaurants/pubs/cafes etc.

5. Start growing some indoor plants or herbs. If you're in a warmer area than Canada, then go ahead and see if you can get a head start on your gardening.

6. Clear our your fridge and give it a nice deep clean.

7. Learn how to make a latte. I finally got the hang of my frother, and it has been life changing. Matcha lattés all day!!

8. Declutter, clear out, and transfer/back-up your laptop or desktop files. It's time! While you're at it, do the same thing for your cell phone.

9. Start on that small business idea you always wanted to do. Now is the best opportunity to nail down a business plan and start sending emails out.

10. Do you taxes.

11. Self-care day: hair masks, face masks, bubble baths with full body scrubs, deep moisturize all over, and give yourself a mani + pedi. You'll feel great, I promise!

12. Pick up new hobbies or get back to old ones. I brushed off my art supplies (pun intended) and got to work this week.

What are all of you doing? Hope everyone is staying safe and cozy!
Cheers,
Chantelle
