I stumbled across this site during the summer, and thought it would be a wonderful discovery to share with you all. Here's an introduction to the project by Sheena:
Starting May 2009, I have pledged to wear one dress for one year as an exercise in sustainable fashion. Here’s how it works: There are 7 identical dresses, one for each day of the week. Every day I will reinvent the dress with layers, accessories and all kinds of accouterments, the majority of which will be vintage, hand-made, or hand-me-down goodies. Think of it as wearing a daily uniform with enough creative license to make it look like I just crawled out of the Marquis de Sade's boudoir.
The Uniform Project is also a year-long fundraiser for the Akanksha Foundation, a grassroots movement that is revolutionizing education in India. At the end of the year, all contributions will go toward Akanksha’s School Project to fund uniforms and other educational expenses for children living in Indian slums.
Best female Grinch I've seen!
I find every inch of this project inspiring, from the issues of sustainable living present in the developed world, to the difficulties faced by young girls (who are attempting to get an education) in the developing world. Where there is a will there is way. So far she has raised $ 27, 525! Sheena is on day 185/ 365 as of Nov 1st. The photos posted above are a few I picked from OCTOBER ONLY! The things this girl can do with one dress! Amazing!
*side note: See the importance of having sturdy basic pieces, and an imagination? I think she looks better than 80% of the people I've met who slather themselves in labels.
