San Francisco Travel Diary - Part 2

Hi my lovelies,

Today I'm back with a wrap-up post on my trip to San Francisco. I absolutely loved having a break from residency and the craziness that was my MICU night shifts. Phew! I have been on my 'jeopardy' week this whole week (hence the increase in blog posts). Jeopardy week is basically being on standby call for 7 days for anyone - aka in case an intern gets sick and needs coverage. I've thus far been called in for one shift, and it was a fun one on the hepatology service! I have loved this impromptu staycation - I feel like we sometimes throw ourselves right back into work after a vacation and leave little time to recoup from our travels. This has helped me reorganize my life, catch up with friends, do a ton of reading (finished 3 books!), and get back into regular exercise and meditation. Just the kick in the butt I needed for Spring! (I also may have had a huge shopping spree for spring/summer clothes, and I am excited to wear some pieces in warmer weather!)

Now let's jump into some more west coast adventures!
Fisherman's Warf and its gorgeous boats. I could stay here all day listening to the waves and breathing in the fresh ocean air!

Ghiradelli for some chocolate!
This was one of the top locations on my list for San Francisco! This place is so gorgeous! For some history check out this link.

The Painted Ladies - this totally reminded me of Full House!
That's all folks! I can't wait to visit again!

San Francisco 2017 - Part 1

Hi everyone!

Today I'm sharing a few photos (re: a lot) from my trip to San Francisco last week. This beautiful city has been on my travel bucket list for quite a few years, and I am so happy I went. I got to spend the week with my family, eat lots of food, and really work those legs and buns on the hilly landscape. Guys, if you live in San Fran, I'm jealous of the daily work-out you get just getting from point A to B. Quads for life! Now let's jump in --->
Feel the burn, people!
2 hours of sleep? That's okay, I got my comfy flats on.  💪 (I will repurchase these forever)
Grace Cathedral - gorgeous, quiet, peaceful, and free to the public. Light a candle for a loved one. I prayed and had a celestial chat with my grandma. She would have loved to see this place 💗
If there's one thing my longtime readers may know, it's that I love beautiful buildings. Classical and modern architecture are much appreciated in my books, so I spent a lot of time taking photos of them. Luckily, my dad is the original facade buff in the family and when I got tired of holding the camera (let's be real here people, DSLR's are heavy and cumbersome) he would pick up where I left off with some wicked shots. Go dad!
This was the Cable Car Museum - you can see the four cable cars of San Fran being operated here with ropes and wheels. It is amazing!
Of course a trip to Chinatown was warranted! I missed the latest batch of egg tarts at Golden Gate Bakery, and regret not going back to try them. I wanted to see if they tasted like Portuguese natas.

In Union Square for some shopping! That little cafe on the left sells a mean espresso if you're getting sleepy/tired.
I'm going to wear this blazer all spring and on fresh summer nights. It is amazeballs!
Word on street(car) is that a few of these babies came from Toronto. Eh?
They're so darn cute. I couldn't help myself!

Ferry Building - filled with market stalls and wonderful smells and flavors. I definitely recommend going here for a lunch and trying lots of different goodies!
Levi's Plaza (red building) - the headquarters. There is a history room on the first floor with old pieces that survived WW2, reappropriation of materials, the history of the Levi jean pants, and many multimedia stations. I definitely recommend a visit for the fashion-inclined.
Coit Tower (on the hill) - I made my fam climb all those stairs to get to the tower, just for the views of San Francisco taken below. Amazing and exhausting!

💖

I love these hills!

See you soon on the next post for some more recommendations on sights to see in the beautiful San Francisco 😍

How I Relax With a Busy Lifestyle

on

Hi everyone!

I have a fun collaborative post today with Soap & Glory and BooHoo. I am super excited to tell you about all the ways I decompress during the hectic life of residency. I have used Soap & Glory products since undergrad (over 10 years now!), and I've always been a fan of their body butter and sugar scrub. So without further ado, here are a list of things that help me relax after 16-30 hour shifts!
1. Get as much sleep as possible. This has been proven time and time again to be one of the greatest health benefits around. I try to get in at least six hours every night, any less and I start feeling slow or end up getting sick. When possible I get 8 hours on my day off. I'm also a fan of cat naps. 😺

2. Long hot baths with a candle lit, and a movie or TV show playing (Sherlock is my fave forever). I like to use Philosophy's bubble bath. I've been using their Christmas marshmallow scent, and I'm going to be devastated when it runs out soon. I have just bought lavender and chamomile soaking salts to add to my routine. My favorite candle is Cactus Blossom from BBW. It's a sweet + citrus scent, and makes my apartment smell marvelous!

3. Full at-home facials. I have a large pile of products I use, which can be saved for another post. I love face masks - I'm currently using this Andalou fruit enzyme mask, and Elizabeth Arden's hydrating mask. I have delved into a few of the products from my BooHoo goodie bag, and I also really loved the Mango and Green Tea mask. My face was very smooth and plump afterwards. If only I could find a big tube of it instead of packets. I also used the cooling cucumber gel eye pads - magnifique!

4. A cup of tea and a new movie curled up on the couch with a furry blanket. I love action movies, particularly action-comedies which are incredibly difficult to find decent ones. My next favorite is thrillers! I also collect 'beautiful' movies because they make my eyeballs happy - you know what I mean. Black Swan, Frida, Great Gatsby, Moulin Rouge, Breakfast at Tiffany's, etc. Just visual splendors! I've linked the trailers so you can peak. I can't wait to get the Beauty and the Beast on DVD, it was so stunning! 😱

5. Planning my next vacation! I am so excited to go to San Francisco in a few days. It has been on my bucket list for ages! This bright blue bikini from BooHoo is an XS and fits perfect for fellow skinny-minis out there. I love that it looks like Hervé Léger's bandage dresses, and the color is gorgeous.

6. If you're lucky enough to have your loved ones nearby, they are some of the best stress relievers ever. I've had my boyfriend over for the past few days, and doing activities after work is such a nice distraction. If you live far from home then I suggest calling your fam and friends. My parents are my go-to daily; they hear all my anxieties, successes, and hardships. I don't know what I'd do without them!

What do you do to relax during busy or stressful weeks? I'd love to add onto my list.

Cheers,
Chantelle
