Weiss put her child on a diet, because the child was overweight (maybe even obese), and it was necessary for her health. I wish more parents were this strict once pediatricians/family doctors recommend a low calorie diet. Obesity is a huge medical dilemma in the USA, and it is the cause of heavy healthcare expenditures as it leads to cardiac disease & heart attacks + strokes (the leading causes of death according to the CDC).
