Today's topic: my daily skin regime
Skin type: normal-oily
Frequency: twice a day on a regular basis
but 3-4 times a day when I'm stressed (I touch my face a lot more, thereby increasing sebum production and spreading bacteria.)
Morning: Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash [pink grapefruit] on a daily exfoliating sponge. Followed by Neutrogena Deep Clean Invigorating Dual Action Toner.
+ It tightens my pores very well, I recommend it. Plus its got chamomile and aloe for a soothing effect
I then dab a bit of the 3-in-1 Neutrogena Acne Stress Control on blemishes or red spots if I have any.
Next: Make-up.
+ I don't wear foundation. It's a personal preference, I don't like stuff on my face. If I do need to cover up marks, I just put medicated concealer or normal concealer over Clean & Clear On-the-Spot treatment.
Throughout the day: I have oil-blotting sheets to get rid of excess sebum. They're handy, I recommend them. Clean & Clear has good ones, as does QUO. They won't ruin your make-up. Blot, don't rub.
Night: I usually remove make-up with L'Occitane en Provence make-up remover. Then I wash face following the same morning routine.
Depending on which day of the week it is I will:
a] put on a 15 min avocado clay mask or
b] do a thermal peel and then apply Bioré strips.
Extra notes
I don't recommend the Bioré strips, to be honest. I'm just getting rid of them at the moment. If you have combination skin like I do, then you'll find that the increased sebum production on your T-zone leads to blackheads, and they're very difficult to get rid of. What I have noticed is that my blackheads diminished significantly, and also loosened up, since I started using the toner.
I really do recommend you use moisturizer! That's one of the golden rules for great skin. I just personally find mine remains hydrated quite well over the course of the day. For those of you with sensitive skin (normal - dry), please invest in one! Dry skin ages A LOT faster than oily skin, because oily skin has excess lubricant. Therefore, INVEST, INVEST, INVEST!
I do have a Vichy anti-imperfection moisturizer that I use sparingly. I recommend it if you have sensitive skin and enlarged pores. You might as well kill two birds with one stone, right? I only use my moisturizer when my skin gets... EXTREMELY dry. This occurs when I use my prescription of 5% Benzoyl Peroxide. It's called BenzaClin Gel, thanks Julia!
For those of you who have this, DO NOT put it all over your face!
I made that mistake. Only over the affected area. To be honest, I really had no need for this. I just broke out a lot a couple months ago because I wasn't taking care of my skin, and my sleeping habits were destroyed. My doc gave me this prescription to use only until the blemishes disappear. I used it for a week, week and a half tops. If you break out again a few weeks later, then use the product. Remember, it has an expiry date!
Do not use it past that date!
Tricks: Toothpaste really works when you want to dry out a blemish. It's harsh, but it gets the job done.
Tips: Swipe the rest of your toner filled cotton pad on your collarbone and chest (the part that's above your shirt edge and exposed to pollution!). You'll be surprised at how much dirt and debris accumulates there.
beauty give-away
Alright, so in honor of my first non-fashion related post, I am hosting a give-away with the lovely people at Perricone MD (their products are favourites among celebrities such as Oprah, and they've been featured in Life& Style and Vanity Fair). You can check out the blog of Dr. Perricone himself here. Exciting, I know!

Anyway, the product being given away is a Citrus Facial Wash, with vitamin C ester. I specifically asked for a product that was targeted to my readers, since most of you fall between the ages of 13 and 25. Perricone is a producer of anti-aging cosmeceuticals, and they even have a skin quiz that will help you determine which Perricone MD products are best for you.
And you must live in the US. I know guys, I'm sorry I'm sorry!
What I would like is for you to comment telling me why you need this product, and why your
current products aren't getting the job done. Type away, bellas!
* For all the readers: Leave a comment stating what you would like me to cover next Friday. I don't care if it's embarrassing or not, just leave it as anonymous. :)

  1. This is a great post!

I have problem skin, but it is purely because I am SO lazy when it comes to routines. I'm not a disciplined person when it comes to stuff like that, but I'm working on it... :P

  2. Fab! Great to see you take care of your skin...
I loved your Jackson Pollock post...we had a look at him in arthistory at school, and he's pretty much a ledgend. :)

  3. After seeing this...i really have to start back using Neutrogena because, thats what i used back in high school and now, i have some pimps popping plus, i touch my face alot too.

  4. Thank you for this post! I just bought some new moisturizer today, so I hope it works.

*I would absolutely love the Citrus Facial Wash because I have heard that it is a great product, and it seems like whatever I try for my skin always ends up disappointing me. I have bought many different facial products (like the personalized Clinique sets, different cleansers) because I am constantly looking for something that will allow me to notice a significant difference. My skin isn't that bad, but it can get pretty dry, I sometimes breakout from stress or my sleeping pattern (or lack thereof..), and since I have fair skin, blemishes can leave long-lasting spots.

Anyway, maybe this should have been a blog entry instead because it's so long haha. It's great that you're doing this giveaway, Chantelle.

  5. love this! i actually use organic face masks and sometimes i make them at home if i have time. avacado and honey and others are really great to use. and of course everyone loves a fresh cucumber facial.

  6. citrus is always a great way to start the day, up the energy, and current products are ok, need to mix it up, like shapoo, it is good to change skin products now and then.
next friday, share an unexpected secret about yourself...

  7. I've got the same skin type and T-zone issues, but not since I've been using Benzaclin. It's prescription, but it makes a WORLD of difference, so much so that I only have to wash my face in the shower at night with Spectro Gel then put this magic Benzaclin on. Voila.

But I do not use foundation or concealer OF ANYKIND, what so ever, never ever. And I moisturize only when I need to. And I love my Avacado mask :)

You really didnt need to know the last bit.

Next Friday, I think you should cover... proper removal of eye makeup. I have just begun using mascara and liquid liner, both waterproof, and they are difficult. Plus, I was appalled when my friends havn't heard of Eye Makeup Remover...

  8. great post! Im surprised you dont moisturize your skin....but to each their own...great giveaway.too bad us Canadians are always out of luck :P

  9. Right now I'm using Neutrogena Foaming Face Wash. It actually works pretty well, but I'm jonesing for that facial wash since it contains citrus, and everyone knows citrus provides a mood lift and reinvigorates. I could use that at 5:00 a.m, when I get up for cross-country. thanks :]

  10. Right now I'm using some Olay facial cleanser and I'm not impressed. I need something that's gentle and doesn't dry out my skin without leaving it feeling greasy like I didn't wash at all..those are big shoes to fill. Bet the citrus smells wonderful, too!

  12. ah goodness you and your wonderful posts. thanks so much for sharing.

and i would LOVE THAT FACIAL WASH!! hehe. i currently am using a neutrogena wash product and am almost out - i've been trying to decide all week if i want to purchase it again and just be okay with it working a little better than most, or try something new altogether. this would be perfect.

next topic should definitely be razors meets bikini line. yep, thats a good one.

  13. I am a faithful Perricone user, I love the stuff. Even if you don't win try it out, its well worth the money!

  14. I absolutely need this because I cannot get rid of my wrinkles.

  15. I am not that old, but its never too early to worrying about wrinkles. i hear these products are great, thanks for the great giveaway!

  16. Love this giveaway! I want to try this to see if it's better than the cheap face wash I'm using now. Thanks!

  17. Perricone is great for all skin types and I have very dry skin so it works for me!

  18. awesome giveaway. a lot of my products don't absorb into my skin well, and its like i have gunk on my face all night!

  19. this would be great for me, i have really dry skin.

  22. Thank god I'm 20! haha. I use alot of face product but my skin is way to sensitive. So hopefully Dr. Perricone is the answer to my prayers!

  23. great giveaway-- I have always wanted to try this stuff.
I think you should do a post about the pros & cons of going on oral acne meds Isotretinoin(ie accutane, sotret,) or tetracycline.

  24. I am excited to see a Perricone giveaway that I could try out! I would love to give this product a try. Thanks for the giveaway!

  25. Perricone is a-ma-zing!!! Great giveaway, thanks!

  26. I would love to try this face wash. A lot of face washes I've tried are either too harsh and cause my skin to get too red or dry, or they don't do anything at all and I still break out. I'd love to try something as highly recommended as Perricone and see if it's a good balance.

  27. I love Perricone products, I've sampled the Citrus wash before and it seems very nice. I like cleansers with a scent they really perk me up!

  28. Great post! I love Perricone products, and I'd love to win one!
