HOW HARRY POTTER IS SAVING LIVES.

The HP Alliance is a Dumbledore's Army for the real world working to create a more just society that honors love. This is an amazing endeavor, where 100% of the proceeds go to the Civilian Protection Program. I was ecstatic when I came across Henry Jenkin's weblog, and was just power-blasted with information.
The Lily Potters of Darfur
As the surviving people in Darfur are forced into refugee camps, firewood near the camps grows increasingly scarce. Every day, women and girls are forced to wander further into the desert in search of firewood for cooking, exposing them to rape and attack from waiting militias. Just $3.00 protects one woman from being raped/attacked for a whole week.

Potterwatch in Burma
The military junta dictatorship in Burma continues to attack ethnic minorities in Eastern Burma by burning their villages and killing everyone in sight. When a village is attacked, they can radio a neighboring village to let them know that they are likely to be next. This will give the neighboring village enough time to hide and save their lives. Like Kingsley's warning to everyone at the Weasley's wedding: "The Ministry has fallen. Scrimgeur is dead. They are coming" and like Potterwatch's ability to use radio to protect the truth. $5.00 protects a whole family in Eastern Burma by providing them with radios.

Emma Watson for Burberry

" It's a political statement when 15 year olds are protecting the lives of people in Darfur and Eastern Burma because their governments have been unable to do it regardless of how many resources they have. "
- Andrew Slack [Co-founder of HP Alliance]

STEVEN MEISEL: "As one of the most powerful photographers in the fashion industry, Meisel is credited with "discovering" or promoting the careers of many successful models, such as Iris Strubegger and Lisa Cant, propelling them to fame by regularly featuring them in Vogue and various campaigns, notably Prada, considered one of the most desired campaigns in the business. Meisel's influence and training seems to also extend past models. He used his influence among the fashion elite to create an issue of Vogue that would show only black models. The issue was released in July 2008 with the purpose of addressing the racism seen lately in fashion magazines, runways, and advertising campaigns." - Wikipedia

I found this editorial on TFS that completely blew my mind. I had to take a couple seconds to take in the fact that these models were floating in water. Judging by their positions, this must have been a strenuous task for the models. I applaud them! This is a brilliant concept in my eyes. Meisel did an outstanding job.

5 wicked water facts
  • Drinking too much water too quickly can lead to water intoxication. Water intoxication occurs when water dilutes the sodium level in the bloodstream and causes an imbalance of water in the brain. This can lead to a coma if done over a long period of time for a detox, as happened to one of my neighbours!
  • Much more fresh water is stored under the ground in aquifers than on the earth’s surface.
  • The earth is a closed system, similar to a terrarium, meaning that it rarely loses or gains extra matter. The same water that existed on the earth millions of years ago is still present today.
  • By the time a person feels thirsty, his or her body has lost over 1 percent of its total water amount.
  • The weight a person loses directly after intense physical activity is weight from water, not fat. [taken from: allaboutwater.org]
NOTE: For those of you who are STARBUCKS drinkers, you may have noticed that they sell Ethos water! I am aware it's a bit more expensive than regular water, however, it follows the motto "Helping children get clean water". So far they've raised $62 million in grants, and helped over 420,000 people from Africa, Asia and Latin America. For the readers who aren't avid Starbuck-ers (yes, I did just make that up), I encourage you to hop on by to grab a bottle before heading to the gym, or class, or work.

I am currently in love with:

1. Gestuz Fall collection '09

2. This amazing youtube video. It's so original, all these people are SOUR fans,
on their webcams!

New info to share:
1. I've just received a private link to share with my readers for the new StyleCaster site. It has already been featured in W, Fashion Week Daily, and Refinery29. Check it out and join!

2. I've just finished testing out Pulse Perfection by Maybelline. Yes.. the VIBRATING mascara wand. Let me tell you, it feels so surreal putting on mascara with this thing. I feel like millions of tiny fairies are tickling my eyelashes. I love that! Haha. I've had some friends test it out, and the only downside to it is.. it's very dramatic. So if you're going for a more natural look...this one may not be for you. Since I enjoy having jet black, thick eyelashes touching my eyebrows.. I was totally for it.

Please note:
“Matchstick is looking for feedback from anyone who may have seen my posting about Maybelline's new Pulse Perfection mascara. If you click on the link below and complete the survey, you will be helping them by donating $2.00 to the Redwood Women’s Shelter, please Click Here to take their short feedback survey.

For every survey that is completed, Matchstick will make a $2 donation to the Redwood Women’s Shelter (theredwood.com).

Your time and feedback is greatly appreciated”

This took so long to edit! It was the first time I used iMovie so forgive me if it's choppy. I cut TONNES of stuff just to make it a bearable length.
Enjoy, I look ridiculous. Now you know I'm a looney for real! Hehe..
And yes.. I do speak in many different accents (everyday!). I'm not doing that just for the video, it's something that's second nature to me, because I love dialects.

And here are some lovely photos I collected over the past two weeks.

Peace,
Chantelle

FRUSTRATION

I'm ready to throw my macbook out the window.
It's not its fault. Blogger and youtube can't host my video response VLOG because
it's too big. I'm in the midst of cutting it down, but it's proving to be difficult.
I don't know how I'm going to fit all the questions. I'm going to take a break,
calm myself, and re-cut again. Sorry for the delay!
